    Face to face training is supervised by an experienced medical professional and gives you the chance to put the theory skills you've learnt into practice. This includes:

    • MSK/Fracture Management/Splinting & Immobilisation
    • Spinal Injury Assessment
    • Spinal Injury Management
    • Player Assessment

    Content

    • Covid-19 response and PPE - Respond and manage an injured player during the covid-19 pandemic safely.
    • Assessing an injured player - Learn to safely approach the casualty, identify the level of responsiveness, resuscitation and use of an Automated Defibrillator. Assist medical staff in airway management and use a bag valve mask.
    • Wounds, Haemorrhage and shock - Manage wounds and bleeding, deal with shock, and prevent infection.
    • Splints and immobilisation - Review how to manage fractures, dislocations, cramp, sprains, strains, and other joint injuries plus learn how to apply various immobilisation devices.
    • Spinal Injury - Learn to identify a spinal injury and manage the injury until help arrives. Measure and apply cervical collars, log roll, use painkilling gas and apply spinal immobilisation equipment.
    • Head Injuries & Concussions - Learn to spot and treat a concussion or serious head injury. Discuss the management of a concussed player after removal from play.
    • Medical Emergencies – This section of the course covers the assessment of an unwell player, including managing: anaphylaxis, asthma attacks, dehydration, hyperthermia and hypothermia.
    • Putting it All Together – During the practical day, we recap the course, going through a step-by-step approach to assessing injured players and using the new skills and equipment.
    • Assessment – During the practical day, you will demonstrate your learning by the completion of a short question paper and demonstration of practical skills.

    The course allows time for the demonstration and practice of all the skills mentioned above.

  • What Qualification Will I Get?

    Following the completion of the course, you'll receive a Lubas Sports Trauma Management certificate (valid for 3 years) and a Certificate in CPR and Automated External Defibrillation (annual refresher course highly recommended).

    This course fulfils the requirement of the ACPSEM (Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports and Exercise Medicine) CPD pathway to silver & gold levels, and the OSCA (Osteopathic Sports Care Association) Advanced Performance Pathway for levels 1,2 & 3.
