I-Gel Advanced Airway Management

This course reviews your airway management skills and teaches the use of an I-gel supraglottic airway in the management of a seriously unwell patient.

An oropharyngeal airway will prevent the tongue occluding the upper airway, but will not prevent aspiration of stomach contents. The I-gel airway is an updated version of the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) and seals simply around the larynx. The I-gel greatly reduces the chance of aspiration and allows ventilation directly from a bag and mask.

I-gel is appropriate for the management of cardiac arrest when responding to trauma or in the management of a difficult airway, including bariatric patients. We will review the selection of an appropriate airway device and available techniques for the management of an airway. The course includes practising I-gel insertion into a training manikin and scenario practice.
